| On Saturday, May
6th in Baton Rouge, at the Knights of Columbus State Convention, the Father Charles J.
Tessier Council 8898 of Larose received the State Deputy's Award for being the #1 out of
293 councils in Louisiana. Eighteen knights and eighteen Kaycee Auxiliary ladies from
Larose were in attendance at the banquet when the award was announced. On Friday, May 5, after the Memorial Mass, an awards program was
held. The Larose council won 4 out of 5 awards for the best service projects in the state.
These four projects will be judged on the international level at the KC Supreme Council in
New Haven, Connecticut.
Church - "Ushering in the Great Jubilee Year 2000" - Dec. 25,
1999 to Jan. 1, 2000
Community - "A Disaster Preparedness and Response Plan" - June
to September 1999
Council - "Knights on a Mission" - Community Foundation of
South Lafourche - Ongoing
Youth - "A Tribute to Youth" - March 2000
After the Vigil Mass on Saturday, May 6, 2000, a banquet
was held at the Radisson Hotel. The last item on the banquet program was naming the top KC
Council in the state. The competition was tough. Three councils, Larose, Chalmette, and
Westwego had earned perfect scores of 1000 points in the activities reports. However, the
tie-breaker was the service projects. Based on the fact that the Father Charles J. Tessier
Council 8898 had won 4 out of 5 service project awards, the Larose council was named #1
again.
The activities reports, which are different from the
service projects, included the following:
Church Activities
Youth Activities
Family Activities
Council Activities
Community Activities
Youth Expansion Program
Membership
Insurance
Administration
