Volunteerism
Any school worthy of the name may justifiably judge its merits on the quality of the people who give of their time and talents for the betterment of the educational process. Holy Rosary Catholic School has a long and envious tradition of parents and friends who willingly serve the teachers, students, and staff in many ways.
This tradition has benefitted us in allowing our teachers to devote more time to the teaching tasks; the students to a greater variety of teaching aids; the school to an ever-growing source of funds for the many, many needs that must be filled in order to continue and further our excellent educational program.
Thank you for your efforts and we pray that you continue to offer your services for our students.
Mr. Philip Collins, Principal HRCS
| Notre Dame du Rosaire, Our Lady of the Rosary Church, formally celebrated its 125th Anniversary on October 11. The history of our church began in 1873, when a small wooden church was built and a resident priest, Rev. Hyacinthe Brindejone, served the community of about 300. Today, we are a faith-filled community of 2000 families, the second largest parish in the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux. We are grateful for our ancestors faith which has been passed on to us today. Our celebration is not just for the history already lived and written, but for the history that we are presently living and the history yet to be made. Our faith community fondly recalls the past, joyfully lives the present, and eagerly plans for the future. Father Dean Danos |

Mrs. Debbie Cheramie enjoying the students as she teaches. The Resource Lab gives children a wonderful advantage and Holy Rosary and Mrs. Cheramie make full use of what is available. |
Mrs. Debbie Cheramie is a 1975 graduate of Nicholls State University with major studies in Elementary Education and Special Education. This is Debbie's 13th year at Holy Rosary and 17th year teaching overall. Although Mrs. Cheramies work includes federal grant duties, she is a full time employee of Holy Rosary. Debbies title is that of Resource Teacher where she works with the "at risk" students in the areas of reading and math. In this area, students work on basic skills both on computers and with their teachers. Students get to work at their own pace on their own level.
Debbie also works on the School Building Level Committee where she identifies students with special needs. Another area of responsibility of Mrs. Cheramie is that of the Rainbows Program. She indicates that it is a special joy to work with these children. She likes the atmosphere and "family" of Holy Rosary.
Mrs. Cheramie looks forward to seeing the joy on the faces of the children as they are working on something they can succeed at in her class. She feels lucky to teach what and where she does, as she enjoys going to work every day. Debbies at risk children make her more aware of the world.
Also in Debbies duties is working with the enriched students. These children work on projects beyond the classroom, such as the Ecology Club and the Good News newspaper. Additional duties also include the tutoring program and coordinating conferences between parents, teachers and Mr. Collins. The new computer lab enables Mrs. Cheramie to help her students in many exiting, new ways.
On Mrs. Debbies personal side, she married Mark Cheramie 23 years ago and her two Holy Rosary graduate children have grown to be freshman in college and high school. Hugh is now attending USL and Katelyn is at LCO.
